Review:
What The Prestige is not very good it is to recreate a period in the history of the show at the end of the century, where the competition between magicians was serious and intense. The operation of the complicated illusions are beautifully brought to life with beautifully detailed device that replicate the actual mechanics of Victorian legerdemain. Much of the Rings film very true, as the all-consuming obsessions of the main characters to be the best and surpass all others. Its an easy way to accept that this unwavering determination spilled over into deadly territory, as rival magicians soft Rupert Angier (a riveting performance by Hugh Jackman) and Alfred Borden bold (Christian Bale struggled to play seed of a lower-class Brit) all seek to sow continuing story of revenge other. The, although based on a novel, it feels like a perfect fit for the direction of Nolans sensitivity, as the machinations of the two men more and more twisted as back-and-out tug of wits that keep you guessing the style of Nolan's Memento. As the game becomes more and more deadly, and threatens to consume all the loves, the film becomes a fascinating study in one-mindedness.The work is epic in sweep, beautifully shot and acted violently. The only odd note in the casting David Bowie as Nikola Tesla (who looks nothing like the current Tesla, if you worry about that sort of thing, and his appearance attracts attention to himself as a star falling down often does), but Mr. Bowie holds her. Solid performances are all around, with Michael Caine adding dignity and depth as the former owner, Scarlett Johansson as beautiful as assistant stage that becomes the third point in a love triangle twisted, and even Andy Serkis (Gollum!) in a memorable supporting role. The introduction of Tesla adds yet another twist as the film moves from the real-but-possible illusion steam-punk sci-fi. This transition is a tough act pull off, since the beginning of the film is not enough to suggest that direction, but if you are willing to let Nolan lead the trip in kingdoms more and more fantastic, the narrative reward you with a challenging moral and dramatic exploration of the issues raised.A really funny movie, and an original, unusual, dark ride - worth seeing in a theater for his great achievement and vision.
